10 for 10

6/9/10

I think this is going to send a message to Columbia that we’re tired of the good ‘ol boy system and we’re ready for true, positive change.”
– Tom Corbin, who defeated House Speaker Pro Tem Harry Cato

Dear SC Club for Growth Members and Friends,
Last night was a great night! Voters across our state sent a strong message to the political class and SC Club for Growth PAC-endorsed candidates were successful in all 10 of their races.

Most notably, Representative Nikki Haley finished first in the Republican gubernatorial primary after earning almost 49% of the vote. HOWEVER, our work isn’t done. Unless Congressman Gresham Barrett (at 21%) bows out gracefully, Rep. Haley will face him in a runoff on June 22.

South Carolinians really responded to Rep. Haley’s message of good government and spending accountability. Will you help her win the runoff by supporting her with $50, $100, $1000 or even $3500? SC Club for Growth PAC members have been extraordinarily generous to Rep. Haley’s campaign so far. Now we can help put her over the top. Thank you in advance for any support you can offer.

(Note: If Rep. Barrett concedes, your investment will help Rep. Haley in the November general election)

We are also proud to announce a victory for SC Club for Growth PAC-endorsed candidate Curtis Loftis over incumbent State Treasurer Converse Chellis. Curtis ran a great campaign – so it’s no surprise that he earned over 61% of the vote. Since no Democrat filed for the office, Curtis Loftis is our new State Treasurer! Curtis has pledged to clean up our state’s finances and we can’t wait to see his good work beginning in 2011.

Club-endorsed Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom also won re-election last night. Since his election in 2002, he has worked tirelessly to streamline state government and control outrageous spending on the Budget and Control Board.

Congratulations as well to the following Club-endorsed House candidates who were victorious:

Tom Corbin, who defeated House Speaker Pro Tem Harry Cato by earning nearly 60% of the vote (District 17, Greenville County)

Bill Chumley, who defeated incumbent House member Keith Kelly (District 35, Spartanburg Country)

Representative Joey Millwood, who finished first to earn a runoff spot in House district 38 (Spartanburg County). He will face Doug Brannon on June 22.

Representative Thad Viers, who was easily re-elected in House district 68 (Horry County)

Rick Quinn, who earned a runoff spot in House district 69 (Lexington County) after finishing first. He will face Danny Frazier on June 22.

In the race for US Congress:

1st District (Lowcountry including Charleston, Georgetown and Myrtle Beach) – Club-endorsed candidate Tim Scott finished first and will face Paul Thurmond in a June 22 runoff.

3rd District (Upstate) – Club-endorsed candidate Jeff Duncan earned a hard-fought runoff spot and will now face Richard Cash in the runoff.

As always, thank you for your generous support. We couldn’t do it without you. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Sincerely,

Matt Moore
